Now that Christmas has come and gone, I can finally post some of the projects I’ve been working on all through December!
I picked up two inexpensive plain t-shirts for my teenage sister. But like my 5 year old daughter would say, everything is better when it’s fancy.
For the first shirt, I made three different types of flowers out of matching poly-satin from Hobby Lobby. I bought 1/4 yard for something like 60 cents and had tons left over. The flowers have a felt backing with a pin so that they can be taken off to wash the shirt. I didn’t think they would fare well in the washer.
This second shirt is my baby. I am so excited to share it with you…
Here’s how I made it…
I tacked a scrap of white knit fabric inside the shirt, then went to town sewing the sunburst design in a coordinating pink thread. I went over the design several times. Then I carefully slipped my scissors in between the green and white fabric and cut the slits so that the white shows through and the green edges kind of roll up. I turned the shirt inside-out and cut away the excess white fabric and ta-dah! All together it’s a pretty cool look and was so fun to do.
A little close up:
Now all that’s left to do is to make one for myself!
