I get a lot of questions asking me about the paint color we used in our kitchen/dining/living room, especially after our recent remodel. After living with it for almost two years now, I can truly say it is the prettiest blue-gray-green color!
The color is Sherwin-Williams Rainwashed.
It is neutral enough to be soothing, but adds personality and color without being in your face. It’s also quite a chameleon wall color.
Sometimes it looks really blue, other times it’s gray or even green.
It looks great with my new dark brown wood floors and makes our white couch and trim work really pop.
I’ve paired it with lots of different color combos and it always looks great!
Rainwashed definitely has a spa-like feel to it. It would be a gorgeous bathroom or master bedroom color too.
I can’t wait to see how it looks with our kitchen once we remodel it. I think it will really look great next to the white cabinets.
What do you think? Would you choose this paint color?

I love the Rainwashed color for our lake home. At first, I planned to have it only on one floor, but now I am glad that we painted the entire house this color. I switched it up by having stained wood trim and doors on the main level, and pretty light painted trim and doors on the master level.

Hi,
In the picture after you said the paint color, rainwashed, where did you the white chest that sits by the rattan chairs? Looking for something like this!
Thank you!

I bought that chest on Wayfair. I looked it up and it’s no longer available, but it was called the Shellburne 3 Drawer Chest by Breakwater Bay if that helps.

We are painting the exterior of our beach house in a few weeks. Aggg! I had chosen a Benjamin Moore color called Woodlawn Blue, which has a slight greenie, bluey, gray tone, but I came across your site while second guessing my color for the hundredth time. I really like the SW Rainwashed. The front of our house gets full sun most of the day. The back of our house gets the sunset. Could you tell me in which light it appears more blue than green and vice versa? There are two blue houses close by ours: one is a bright turquoise blue two houses away (an empty lot sits between us) and the other a pale baby blue right next door. We’re trying to have a slight contrast so we thought something with a little green would be nice. Also, to add to the challenge we are painting over very light, off-white vinyl siding so we can’t choose too dark of a color. Would appreciate your take on the hue changes with various natural lighting. Thanks!

I would say our paint looks more blue in direct light, more green in sunset light and more gray on cloudy days. I’ve lived with this color for four years now and still love it just as much as the day I picked it. It’s calming and not at all in-your-face. It feels like a neutral even though it’s a color and I would totally pick it again!

What white do you recommend to go with Rainwashed? I have Alabaster in my kitchen and have wondered how it would go with Rainwashed.
Jennifer says
I color matched my white paint and it is a VERY white color. It’s a personal preference… I love a crisp white paired with blue. Alabaster is definitely a creamy white, but you’ll have to try a sample of the color in your space. Every home has different light and every color looks different next to other colors. A small paint sample can is only a few bucks. Totally worth testing out… just paint a swatch on a piece of poster board. Good luck!

I LOVE this post and seeing this color in so many scenarios. I love the black wall piece with leaves and a V. where did you find this? love it. I’m inspired to paint the dining room ASAP.
Jennifer says
I made it out of a scrap wood thing I had in the garage.

How do you think it would look with agreeable gray in the kitchen?

I’ve been trying all kinds of sample pots of paint and then came across your info. I picked up the SW rainwashed and I think it might be the one! Alot of others I tried were just TOO much blue or green…this seems like it’ll be a good neutral with that small bit of colour that adds interest. We have a bungalow near the beach, lots of windows and light but it’s rainy here during the winter so plain gray is just …well too gray. Thanks for all your info and pics. This really helped!

Rainwashed would be the perfect color for a beach bungalow. So glad you found this helpful. I hope you love the paint color as much as I do!

Hello! I’ve been agonizing over a color for our living room/kitchen/entryway/hallway and I LOVE Rainwashed. Does it ever skew baby blue? Most blue neutrals I find tend to look baby blue in some light, and I’m hoping to have a little different feel overall. Thanks for your feedback. Great article!
Jennifer says
I don’t think this color ever reads as baby blue. It has too much green in it. Definitely a muted color. I loooove it so of course I think you will too!

Wanting a color, as an accent wall, for our dining room. Our home is open concept for L.R., kitchen and D.R. The entire area is a creamy white including built in bookcases. Counter tops and island is black granite. Suggestions for best gray- blue against the creamy white chair rail in dining room? Floors are light hickory.
East facing room with morning sun. Thanks in advance!

Have been searching for the perfect green-gray-blue and came across your site. We are looking at Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. Did you consider Sea Salt too? If so, why did you choose Rainwashed or what are your thoughts on Sea Salt? Our home colors are very similar to yours- dark floors (Brazilian cherry, so not quite as dark) and Decorator’s White for the ceiling, trim and doors/cabinets (a very crisp bright white). Thank you!
Jennifer says
Rainwashed and Sea Salt are super similar, but Rainwashed definitely leans more blue and Sea Salt has more green. I wanted a sophisticated aqua color, so that’s why I chose Rainwashed. But I’ve seen Sea Salt in other homes and it is beautiful too!

Preparing to change the trim, shutters, porch posts of the exterior of my house. Looking for a perfect blue green grey color that blends well with the light gray walls and green metal roof. It’s really nice to see exactly how this color looks in your house. Thank You
