It’s been a while since I shared an update on our home renovating. We’ve been busy with other things lately, but now that warm weather and sunny days are here, we’re going to be tackling some curb appeal projects we’ve been dying to work on since we moved into this sad 80’s split entry. We are calling it “Project Get-Rid-of-the-Brown.”
We’ve already made progress on the front door area and the landscaping in the front flower beds. This is what it looked like when we moved in:
And here’s a picture of our newly painted front door:
I used (affiliate link) DecoArt CurbAppeal paint in the color Colonial Mint. Isn’t it so cheerful?!
Here’s what the house looks like currently:
Blah! It’s so sad! Notice the peeling paint, loose shingles, faded brown siding in the gables and junk piled on the side of the house. Gross. It’s just gross.
The projects on our list:
- Replace the gross brown roof. We’re going to do it ourselves! We’ve already picked out the new shingles.
- Replace the faded brown siding in the gables with crisp, fresh white vinyl shake shingle panels. I think this is really going to update the home and give it some interest without the huge expense of replacing all of the siding.
- Add a vinyl fence with gate to the side of the house where we keep our firewood and garbage cans. It’s an RV parking pad and I’m excited to be able to close off that ugly part of the yard!
Eventually we will replace the two long skinny slit windows on the entryway portico with one larger window and the other windows will be replaced too.
So what do you think? I am pretty excited to do these updates and I’m surprised how much of a difference the changes will make to the overall look and feel of the house.
Bye bye brown!
