Personalize a pair of summer sandals with adhesive craft vinyl.
I bought a cute pair of holographic slide sandals for my teenage daughter and thought it would be so fun to add a vinyl design to make them more unique. It was a quick and easy project, but the result is pretty cute. And now she will be the only one of her friends to have these fun sandals. If you’re looking for a summery craft project, this is a good one!

To make this custom cherry vinyl decal, you will need the following supplies:
- Expressions Vinyl Series 51 Permanent Craft Vinyl (Flamingo Pink, Bright Berry, Caterpillar Green and Clover)
- Silhouette Cameo
- Cherry Cut File
Step 1
Download the cherry cut file and open it in Silhouette Studio. Resize the shape, then duplicate. Mirror one shape.
Step 2
Right click and click the “ungroup” button. This will allow you to rearrange each shape separately.
Step 3
Move the pieces together that will be cut from the same color. I do it this way so I don’t waste vinyl.
Step 4
Arrange scrap pieces of vinyl onto a cutting mat to line up with where you arranged the shapes in Studio. (Hmm… maybe it’s time for me to get a new cutting mat. Ha!)
Step 5
Cut vinyl and weed excess vinyl to reveal the designs. I love THIS weeding tool. It makes it so easy to pry the vinyl away from the backing paper and pick out intricate designs like lace or small fonts.
Step 6
Peel the vinyl off of the backing paper and stick it to the sandals, beginning with the cherry stems, then the larger circle, then the smaller circle and leaf lines.
And that’s all it takes to make a custom pair of summer sandals! Aren’t the cherries so cheerful and summery? I’ll admit it… I kind of want to steal these shoes and keep them for myself!
Also, can we just comment on the fact that this type of slide sandal has come back around? I totally had a black pair just like this in 7th grade. Weird.
Happy crafting!

What kind of vinyl are you using? Brand and type make all the difference!
