Make A Doll Beanie From An Old Sock

Okay, I know I said the last post was going to be my last doll post for a while. What can I say? I lied. I can’t help myself! It’s like my childhood dream of becoming a fashion designer, but better because everything is in miniature! Ack! Anywho… I have another easy project to share today.

I’ve had this cute sock tucked away in my drawer for forever:

It lost it’s mate many years ago and I’ve held on to it hoping that the other sock would turn up because I love these socks so much. I finally gave up and decided that I it just wasn’t going to happen. BUT I could still enjoy the sock in a re-purposed form… as a doll beanie!

It was super easy to make.

Step 1: Make sure the sock will fit your doll’s head. No need to get this whole project done only to realize that the sock is too big or too small. That would stink.

 Then cut off the top “tube” part of the sock, like this:

Step 2: Serge the top edge or do a zig zag stitch (wide width, short stitch length) around the raw edge to keep it from unraveling.

Step 3: Using sturdy thread, stitch loosely around the cut edge.

Step 4: Pull the thread tight to gather the top of the beanie together and tie the two ends of the thread tightly. Trim edges close to knot or tie in a decorative bow.

And that’s it! Now you have a cute little doll beanie!

I also debated about turning it into a skirt…

… which would be cute as well. You would just have to make some kind of casing to finish off the top edge and add elastic. Hmm… Maybe I will go look in my lost sock drawer to see what other treasures lurk there!
