Make your own homemade sidewalk chalk paint for hours of creative outdoor play for kids.
Today I’m sharing a recipe for homemade sidewalk chalk paint, just in time for warm weather and lots of time spent outside.
These are the ingredients I used:
Supplies Needed
- 1 Box (16 ounces) Cornstarch
- 2 Cups Water
- Food Coloring
- Muffin Tin or Divided Tray
- Paint Brushes
Instructions
Step 1: Mix cornstarch and water in a big bowl until smooth.
Step 2: Pour mixture into 12 muffin cups, then add food dye to make as many different colors as you desire. Stir until the dye is evenly incorporated. And it’s more fun if you add lots of dye because your paint will be vibrant and beautiful.
Then let your kids go to town painting the sidewalk and driveway! It comes right off, was easy and inexpensive to make and kept my kiddos entertained for a long, long time. I’d call that a win!

Do you think that gel food colors would produce brighter colors, or cause damage? Either way I am excited to try this out!

I bought “spray” sidewalk chalk. You just add water to the spray bottles. Do you think this would work in the bottles or is it too thick?
Jennifer says
If it’s too thick, you could always just water it down a little more.
