Make an American flag out of giant paper flowers to decorate for the Fourth of July.
Fourth of July decorations are my favorite. The classic combo of red, white and blue makes my patriotic heart so happy. If you’ve followed along here at The Craft Patch, you know that I adore paper flowers. I’ve used them for all sorts of projects! As I was contemplating the upcoming holiday, it only seemed natural to make something out of paper flowers. So I made a giant American flag!
This post is made possible by my sponsors at Hobby Lobby.
First let’s look at a few of the pretty party table details, then I’ll walk you through how to make the paper flowers.
The blue check tablecloth, red star table runner, star food picks, glass jars, paper plates and patriotic napkins are all from Hobby Lobby.
It was so easy to set up a cute food table with all of their patriotic party decor items. I even bought the red, white and blue sprinkles at Hobby Lobby!
Now let’s make the paper flowers!
If you would like to make this amazing flower flag, you will need: (affiliate links)
- Red, white and blue cardstock
- Silhouette Cameo (you can cut the petals by hand, but it would take forever)
- Glue gun + lots of gluesticks
I bought packs of cardstock when they were on sale for 50% off, so it was only $10 or $12 dollars and I have tons of paper leftover. I bought these packs:
I bought two packs of each color and only used the red out of the holiday pack and only two shades out of the blue pack, so I can save the rest of the cardstock for another day.

If you learn better by seeing, here’s a short video tutorial that shows you exactly how to make the giant paper flowers:
To make the paper flower flag, you will need to make 18 white flowers, 11 red flowers and 6 blue flowers. Each flower measures about 10 inches across.
It takes a long time to make the flowers, but it was totally worth it! Talk about a lot of impact for just a few bucks!

Okay, let’s try to troubleshoot. Did you open Silhouette Studio, then try to open the file you downloaded?

Where did you get those scissors?
Jennifer says
I bought them from Consumer Crafts, but I just checked and it looks like they no longer carry them. I’ve seen them before at Michaels. They are called fringe scissors and they are made by EK Success/Martha Stewart.

They are also called Shredder Scissors.

The scissors are also called Shredder Scissors. If you have an old shredder you could put the paper in shred an inch or so the reverse the shredder & get the same effect.

You can find the scissors in the kitchen gadget section of your favorite department store, as well. They are used for chopping herbs.
