These caramel apple cookies are super easy to make and are a cute and festive fall party dessert.
I am blown away by the response to my sheet pan caramel apple video. It reached 10 million views on Instagram! Apparently y’all love caramel apples. Same, girl. Same.
So today I’m sharing another caramel apple dessert idea. We’re making caramel apple cookies but in the easiest way possible. Seriously, it does not get easier than this. To make them you will need:
Ingredients
- Granny Smith Apples
- Cold Water
- Salt
- Apple Slicer
- Litehouse Caramel Dip
- Sugar Cookies or Snickerdoodles
- Toppings (candy, sprinkles, chocolate chips, pretzels, etc.)
You can use any kind of sugar cookie or snickerdoodle you want. Bake them from scratch, make them from a tube, buy them at the bakery…. anything goes! How tired are you? Choose accordingly. LOL.
Instructions
Step 1: Slice one or two Granny Smith apples using an apple slicer. If you don’t have one, of course you can cut them by hand. I just love my slicer. It’s super handy.
Step 2: Let’s prep those apple slices so they stay fresh and looking pretty!
How To Prevent Apples From Turning Brown
- Pour 2 cups cold water and 1 teaspoon salt into a bowl. Stir until salt is dissolved.
- Place the apple slices into the bowl of salt water and let them soak for 10 minutes.
- Rinse the apple slices under cold water.
- Dry completely with a clean, lint-free kitchen towel.
Okay, I know this sounds weird, but it is the absolute best way to prevent apples from turning brown. No, the apples don’t taste salty afterwards! I cut way too many apple slices filming the video of these cookies and TWO DAYS LATER the apple slices still look pretty. My mind is blown. Try it! It’ll become your go-to method, promise.
Step 3: Frost the sugar cookies with a generous amount of the pre-made Litehouse caramel dip. This stuff is delicious and shelf-stable and the perfect consistency for frosting. It was meant to be.
Step 4: Add the dried apple slices to the top of the caramel. I tried several different ways to add the slices and prefer dicing the apple slices into small pieces for these small sized cookies. If I had bigger cookies, I think the larger slices would be pretty laid in a star or fan design, but they didn’t fit so well on the smaller cookies.
Step 5: Add fun toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips, M&M’s, nuts, chopped candy, etc.
Aren’t’ they pretty!? Fill up a big platter with these gorgeous cookies, take them to your next fall shindig and everyone will be impressed with your baking skills and you will be secretly smiling to yourself because you tricked ’em good. I told you they were easy!
This would make a fun party activity. You could turn it into a Make-Your-Own Cookie Bar and let each person frost and top their cookies with whatever fun toppings they’d like. Just prep the apples and put toppings in little bowls and it would be a low key but fun activity.
Litehouse also makes a pumpkin spice flavored caramel dip. If you’re a PSL lover, that would be a fun variation to try too!
