Learn how to make matching tie dye shirts for your daughter and her 18 inch doll.
Hey there friends! I’m sharing a super fun activity for girls today. We’re making matching tie dye shirts for my daughter and her 18 inch doll. She has a Journey Girl doll, but it is very similar to an American Girl doll for a fraction of the price.
We’ve been obsessed with DIY doll projects lately, so we thought it would be fun to try tie dye. Here’s what you’ll need for this project.
Materials Needed
- Small Tie Dye Kit
- White Cotton Girls T-Shirt
- White Doll Shirt
- Gallon Zip Bag
Instructions
Step 1: Get both shirts wet with water, then ring them out so they are no longer dripping.
Step 2: Wear plastic gloves and add water to the dye powder in the bottles.
Step 3: Decide on a folding pattern and secure it with rubber bands. You can see a huge list of tie dye folding pattern ideas here.
Step 4: Apply the dye to both shirts. For best results, apply a lot more dye than you think you need.
Step 5: Place both shirts in a plastic bag and follow the directions that come with the tie dye bottles for how long to let them sit and how to wash them afterward.
This is what our shirts looked like after being rinsed, washed and dried the next day.
We love how they turned out and my daughter thinks it’s pretty fun to match her doll.
