These simple DIY placemats are a great way to display gorgeous fall leaves and decorate your table for the autumn season.
Today’s craft is the perfect activity to involve the whole family. Head out on a nature walk and collect colorful fall leaves along the way, then use them to make simple placemats for your Thanksgiving table.
This post is sponsored by Duck Brand.
To make these placemats, all you need is Duck Brand Clear Laminate, a bunch of pretty fall leaves and a pair of scissors.
Step 1: Collect fall leaves and place them in the pages of heavy books to preserve them. I like to line my book pages with copy paper so the pages don’t get ruined. The leaves will be ready to use after about a week. They should feel dry to the touch.
Step 2: Cut two 18″ pieces of the clear laminate. It has a grid printed on the paper, so this step is super easy.
Step 3: Remove the paper backing from one piece of laminate. Place it sticky side up on your work surface, then start arranging leaves pretty side down onto the laminate.
Step 4: Once you are satisfied with your leaf design, remove the paper backing from the second sheet of laminate and carefully center it over the other sheet and press the two together. Smooth it out and press firmly, then trim off any excess parts around the edges so that no more sticky surface remains.
And that’s it! A super quick and easy fall craft, but really a lot of fun for the whole family. My kids are already asking to go on another walk to collect more leaves. This time they want to make an entire table runner.
