Make a gorgeous gold embossed phone case using stamps, embossing powder and a heat tool.
Today’s project is a fun one. Have you ever used embossing powder? It’s the coolest stuff. It makes a gorgeous raised design and since today I’m using metallic embossing powder, my final design is shiny gold. It’s an easy technique to use, but the results look impressive and expensive.
I’m going to demonstrate embossing powder by jazzing up a plain phone case. Be sure to watch the video at the end so you can see the heat gun turn the powder into gold. It’s mesmerizing!

To make your own gold embossed phone case, you’ll need the following materials:
Materials Needed
- Floral Essence Stamp Set (or any other stamp set you love)
- Clear Stamping Block
- Versamark Stamp Pad
- Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder
- Heat Tool
- Small Paint Brush
- Hard Plastic Phone Case
Step 1: Adhere the stamp of your choice to a clear mounting block. Apply an even layer of Versamark ink to the stamp pad. This ink is clear, so you won’t be able to see it very easily. You can tell the image is coated if you hold it up to the light at just the right angle.
Step 2: Position the stamp and press firmly onto the back of the phone. You may need to support the case from the other side so that it stays flat while stamping. Otherwise, you won’t get a crisp image.
Step 3: Place the phone case on a clean sheet of paper, then sprinkle the embossing powder over the ink. Tap off the excess powder onto the paper, then pour the excess powder back into the jar.
Step 4: Use a fine tip paint brush to sweep off any stray granules of powder. This will give you a much cleaner, crisper final design.
Step 5: Turn the heat gun on and carefully hold it about 1 inch above the design. Move it slowly back and forth and watch as the powder melts and turns to shiny gold! Please handle the heat gun and heated design with caution. The tip of the gun and your phone case will be very hot and can burn you. Use common sense and you’ll be fine.
When all of the powder has turned shiny, your cool new phone case is finished!
