Turn a book box into a secret charging station to keep cords and electronics out of sight.
There’s always a pile of electronics in my living room that need to be charged and that tangle of cords drives me absolutely nuts! So I came up with a solution to hide all that junk in a pretty way. I turned a book box into a hidden charging station!
It all started with this tacky book box I found at a thrift store for $2.
I clearly needed to paint it because the style and cheesy saying was killing the vibe. I hand painted the flowers and used gold adhesive vinyl for the words.
I was going for Rifle Paper Co. but I realize I am no artist. Oh well. I tried!
The good news is you can skip all this and just buy a book box that’s already pretty. I searched the internet for options that are the right size and found several different styles that are all really cute, so there’s something for every aesthetic.
My book measures about 9″ x 12″ and you don’t want to go too small or there won’t be space inside for your charging bank and cords, etc.
Here are some great book box options for this project:
Book Boxes
- Faux Leather Antique Embossed Book Box
- Jane Eyre Book Box
- Starry Night Book Box (Set of 2)
- Solid White Linen Book Boxes (Set of 6)
- Landscape Painting Book Box
- Gray Linen Book Box (Select the Large Size)
- Pink Garden Book Box
All you need to do to turn a book box into a hidden charging station is drill a hole so that the charging cord can get out! I chose where to drill my hole based on how I wanted my book to sit in my house.
Lay your book down in the location you plan to use it, then decide where the cord should come out for your particular situation. Drill a hole (or two holes next to each other) big enough for the charging cord to fit through. Then you’re done!
Now you have a secret place to stash all your electronics while they charge!
This is making my little Nancy Drew heart so happy. I love old books. I love secret hiding places. I love clutter that is out of sight.

This is just a very happy project all around for me.
