Give money for Christmas in a creative way with this printable gingerbread cookie Christmas gift idea.
Let’s face it… sometimes money is just the best gift option. But that doesn’t mean you have to give it in a boring way!
Today I’m sharing a cute idea for giving money for Christmas. It’s a printable gingerbread cookie with a little saying on it…
Fake cookie. Real dough. Enough to buy a cup of cocoa.
–and–
Fake cookie. Real dough. Enough to buy a Cup of Joe.
And you make a little slit so that a rolled up bill can slide right into the little pocket so it looks like the gingerbread person is holding the money roll. So cute, right?!
I love this idea for giving to nieces and nephews or grandkids where you may not be able to be handing out $100 bills left and right. $5 or a $10 works nicely because it’s just enough to stop at a drink shop for a hot cocoa or a coffee.
I made a couple different versions so you could pick which type of drink fits the situation.
And I’m sharing the printable with you so you can whip these up in a jiffy.
Let me show you how to make it.
Materials Needed
- Printable File (download at the bottom of this post)
- White Cardstock
- Scissors
- Craft Knife
- Glue Stick
- Cellophane Treat Bags
- Paper Shred
- Ribbon
Instructions
Step 1: Download the file below and print it onto white cardstock. There are two different files: one that says cocoa and one that says Cup of Joe, so be sure to print the one you actually want to use.
Step 2: Cut a slit into the paper along the top edge of the banner the gingerbread person is holding. I drew a black line on this image to give you an idea of exactly where to cut the slit:
Step 3: Cut out the gingerbread shape, leaving plenty of white space around the image. Run a line of glue all around the edges of the back of the cut shape, then press the glue side down onto a second piece of white cardstock.
Step 4: When the glue is dry, cut a little ways in from the first cut edge you make so that both layers of cardstock are cut exactly the same. You’ll cut all the way around the image again. This forms the pocket that will hold the money.
Step 5: Roll up a money bill and place a rubber band or small piece of tape around it to hold it in place, then slip the money into the slit you cut earlier. It should fit perfectly there and the backing paper will hold it in place.
Step 6: You can stop here, but if you want to be a little “extra” (said with love… we adore extra around here), then fill a cellophane treat bag with a bit of paper shred, slip the gingerbread cookie into the bag, then tie it off with a ribbon and add a little sprig of pine or berries or a mini ornament or bell… whatever you like!
And here’s the finished Christmas money gift:
She’s cute. Real cute. I am pretty excited with how this idea came together. I hope you love it too!
