Today I am joining with other talented bloggers to share over 20 amazing vinyl projects to celebrate the launch of Alexis of Persia Lou‘s new Craftsy Class – Silhouette Saavy: Venture into Vinyl (aff. link), a brand new online video class that will teach you everything you need to know to get started cutting vinyl with your Silhouette machine.
For my vinyl project, I decided to make a DIY Christmas gift idea that would be perfect for tween or teen girls to give to their friends. I’m going to show you how add craft vinyl monograms to cute hair brushes. Personalized gifts are always well-received and these hair brushes are bright and cheery and useful. I’ve also got free printable hand-lettered gift tags to go with them.
Let me show you how to make your own monogrammed hair brush.
I used permanent vinyl from Expressions Vinyl so that the design will never peel or start coming off, even if the brush gets wet.
1. Create your design in Silhouette Studio. If you want help designing a monogram, this is a free monogram maker tool that lets you enter your initials and choose what style monogram you want. You do have to sign up to be a member to download the design, but it’s free.
2. Load vinyl onto cutting mat.
3. Adjust cut settings to vinyl.
4. Cut with Silhouette machine.
5. Weed excess vinyl.
6. Cover the design with transfer tape (or contact paper if you’re cheap like me) and peel off the backing paper.
7. Stick vinyl to hair brush and remove transfer tape.
It’s that easy! I just love monograms and in my book, anything that’s personalized makes such a thoughtful gift.
I came up with a great tag to go with the gifts.
Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle… I really crack myself up! And since they are hilarious, I know you want to use them too.
