These mason jars filled with hot cocoa mix and topped with holiday themed hats are so festive and fun!
You don’t have to spend hours slaving away to make adorable handmade neighbor gifts this holiday season. With the help of holiday flavored M&M’S and my free printable mason jar toppers, you can put together an awesome and festive gift to share with neighbors, co-workers or friends.
Step 1. Download the free printable mason jar toppers from the bottom of this post. It’s a big blue button.
Note: Most school districts and many employers block access to Google Drive, so if the files won’t open for you, this might be why. Try downloading them again at home.
Step 2. Print the designs onto white cardstock.
Step 3. Cut out the hat band, then attach it to a mason jar ring using hot glue or tape. Cut out the coordinating label and attach it to the mason jar lid.
Then it’s time to whip up the homemade hot cocoa mix. (Or if you’re short on time, just dump store-bought cocoa mix into each jar. Shhh… no one will ever know it isn’t homemade!)
Here’s my recipe for homemade hot cocoa mix:
- 2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups white sugar
- 1 cup coffee creamer
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- pinch salt
- warm milk
- mason jars
- 1.5 cups mint Christmas M&M’s
Mix the dry ingredients together in a food processor. This helps break everything down so that it will dissolve more evenly in the milk. Divide the powder evenly between three pint sized mason jars, then fill the rest of the jar up with M&M’s.
To serve the hot chocolate, pour 1 cup of warm milk into a mug, then stir in 1/2 cup cocoa mix. The M&M’S melt and make this a truly decadent holiday treat. Plus they add so much festive color to the jars.
You can use these mason jar toppers for other treats besides just hot cocoa, of course. Fill the jar with your favorite candied popcorn or a stack of home baked cookies or fudge or caramels or whatever your heart desires!
