Make your own personalized tablecloth for Thanksgiving using iron-on craft vinyl and a canvas drop cloth.
Cute Thanksgiving decorations are hard to find in stores, so this year I made a DIY Thanksgiving tablecloth to fit with my neutral Thanksgiving table decor and I just love how it turned out.
I added subtle wreaths around each place setting using white heat transfer vinyl!

For this project you will need: (affiliate links)
Materials Needed
- White Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Silhouette Cameo
- Canvas Drop Cloth (from Walmart or Harbor Freight) or Any Tablecloth
- Iron or EasyPress
Instructions
- Download a wreath design from the Silhouette Design Store. I used one part of this pretty Christmas wreath, but there are tons of cute choices. Adjust the design and the cut settings, then load the HTV into the machine shiny side down.
- When the design is cut, peel away the excess vinyl.
- You should be left with a completed design that is still attached to the clear transfer sheet.
- Arrange the design onto the drop cloth sticky side down so the white design is under the clear sheet. Place a cloth over the design and apply firm pressure with a hot iron for 45-60 seconds.
The cool thing about this project is that you can customize it to fit the exact size or shape of your table. I put the tablecloth on my table and made sure it was straight, then laid each wreath down, then adjusted and measured and adjusted some more until I was sure everything was where I wanted it.
Then I put my ironing board at the end of the table and carefully slid the tablecloth down to iron each wreath into place. I didn’t want to risk anything shifting by lifting the whole cloth up at once, so this was the solution I came up with.
I made the wreaths 12 inches x 12 inches. If I were to do this again, I would make the wreaths even bigger.
I didn’t measure my plates beforehand (doh!) and the wreaths were too small to show around the edges of the plates! So I used my salad plates for the photos. To make the wreaths bigger, adjust them to be the correct size in the Silhouette design software, then cut them in half and arrange them to fit onto a single sheet of vinyl (since they’re only 12″ wide), then piece the two halves together after they are cut and weeded.
Even with the small hiccup of sizing, I love how this project turned out and I think it is so perfect for Thanksgiving. It would be so fun to add each person’s name to the tablecloth. Or write a Thanksgiving phrase around the edges of the table. Or make birds-eye-view graphics of all your favorite Thanksgiving foods… that would be adorable! There are so many fun ways you could personalize a tablecloth for Thanksgiving.

OMG!! What a fantastic idea to pleat your table runner!! I have a small table in my kitchen nook and rarely can I find a small enough runner. I’ve cut and sewn enough times, but I absolutely adore this look!!
