How to Cross-Stitch a Funkin Pumpkin

How to decorate a craft foam pumpkin with a fun cross stitch design.

When I think of fall crafting, I tend to think everything has to be orange, red and brown. This year I decided to challenge myself to come up with a non-traditional color scheme to decorate my entryway table. I headed to my local Hobby Lobby and found inspiration in the yarn aisle.

I decided to try to cross-stitch a carvable foam pumpkin! Want to give it a try too? Here’s how.

Step 1: Cut a hole in the pumpkin so you can access the inside. I just realized as I was typing this out that since it’s a fake pumpkin, you could totally cut from the bottom and then your cut lines wouldn’t show. Dang. Wish I would have thought of that sooner!

Step 2: Round up a few different colors of yarn. I chose a color palette of blush pink, olive green, cream, navy and mustard yellow. It’s definitely not your typical fall color scheme, but I love these colors together!

Step 3: Choose a design. I went with a simple smattering of X’s, but the sky is the limit here. Draw the design on with a pencil, then use a power drill with a small drill bit to make holes in the pumpkin.

Step 4: Use a blunt tip needle with a big eye to stitch your design onto your pumpkin.
