Rainbow colored yarn and giant paper flowers make up this cheerful macrame wall hanging.
Rainbow crafts are my favorite. What could be happier than a rainbow of yarn topped with paper flower clouds? I’m pretty sure the answer is nothing. This is one of the cheeriest crafts I may have ever made.
Want to make your very own rainbow wall hanging? You will need:
Materials Needed
- Yarn in a rainbow of colors
- A wooden dowel
- Twine or string
- A few white paper flowers (learn how to make giant paper flowers here)
Instructions
Step 1: Cut 12-15 pieces of yarn in each color. The pieces should be approximately 20 inches long, but it’s really up to you and how big you want your final piece to be.
Step 2: Fold each piece of yarn in half and attach it to the dowel with a Lark’s Head Knot, like this:
Continue attaching all of the yarn pieces to the dowel. Just make sure that you tie the knots the same direction so that you have a uniform look at the end.
Step 3: Once all of the yarn is attached, you can choose to make more knots or leave it as is. It’s up to you! Once you are happy with the way it looks, trim the ends. I made a slightly rounded shape along the bottom. It would be cute to do a sharp point or you could even cut a straight edge. Again, it’s personal preference.
Step 4: Add a string for hanging.
You could stop here and you’d have a pretty darling project.
Or you could whip up some paper flowers and take this craft to the next level of cuteness.
I attached my flowers directly to the wall with push pins, but the velcro Command Strips would work well if you’re concerned about making holes in the wall.
I hung my new decoration in my craft room on the wall next to my rainbow of paper flowers. It definitely fits right in and is going to make me smile for a long time to come.

Hi,
The rainbow is beautiful.
What type of yarn did you use?

Any kind of yarn works, but I used Red Heart because it was inexpensive.
