Make a statement on your walls with this DIY wall art that looks like a forest of aspen trees.
I’ve got a fun DIY home décor idea to share today. I’m going to show you how to make this really cool large-scale wall art piece that looks like a forest of aspen trees. And I bet you’ll never guess what it’s made from!
Materials Needed
- EVA Craft Foam Roll
- Scissors or Craft Knife
- Dark Gray Craft Paint
- Small Paint Brush
- Pencil
- Yardstick
Instructions
Step 1: Unroll the craft foam and tape it to a tabletop or hard floor or other work surface so it can relax after being rolled up tight.
Step 2: Draw the design you want on the backside of the foam, then start cutting it out. Leave a nice wide border around the outside edges to provide stability to the project. I actually used a yardstick and drew the border lines around the whole sheet of foam before I ever drew the tree trunks. My border was about 4 inches thick.
Step 3: Once the design is cut out, flip the project right side up and paint little accent marks on the trunks to make them look like aspen trees.
And that’s all it takes to make this project! I used the velcro-type Command Strips to hang my art directly on the wall. You could also hang it with push pins or lots of loops of painters tape.
Since this DIY wall art is super lightweight, it’s perfect for a dorm room or rental apartment because you can easily hang it without damaging walls.
I think this project turned out pretty cool. I love how the wall color shows through and how the edges of the foam sort of stick out from the wall and give the art dimension.
