This chocolate mug cake is the best recipe out there! Now you can quickly indulge your chocolate craving with this single-serve chocolate cake that’s cooked in the microwave in less than a minute!
I have finally found the very best chocolate mug cake recipe. It is loaded with chocolate flavor and has a great fudgy texture. And the best part is that you can make this decadent single-serve dessert in the microwave in one minute!
What is cake in a mug?
It’s the answer to your late night chocolate craving! Mug cakes are a single-serve dessert you cook in a coffee mug in the microwave. It’s like a chocolate lava cake you’d get at a fancy restaurant, but way less time-consuming.
My sweet tooth can get pretty fierce sometimes. Whiny children, long days and most remodeling projects are usually what bring it on. Sometimes I just want a treat and I want it NOW. Can you relate?
That’s where this amazing microwave chocolate mug cake comes in. A few years ago I tested a bunch of different mug cake recipes (read about that HERE).
Most of them were different levels of gross. The recipes that contained eggs were especially weird. The egg made the finished dessert rubbery. Cooking a dessert in the microwave seemed like an impossible dream.
Then I found this chocolate mug cake recipe and it is a true gem. It’s almost like cheating… you get a decadent ooey-gooey treat exploding with chocolatey goodness in less than a minute without turning on your oven or having to bake anything!
This is not a light and fluffy cake. It is more like a lava cake. It’s dense, fudgy, and super rich.
How do you make chocolate cake in a cup?
It’s so simple. Grab a microwave-safe mug and a few basic baking ingredients, stir them up, then microwave the ingredients right in the mug and in a minute or less, you’ll have an amazing dessert for one. This means you won’t have any mixing bowls to wash. Just one mug and one spoon. Yay!
How do you make a chocolate Nutella mug cake?
That’s what’s so great about this recipe. There are endless variations! To make a Nutella mug cake, use the exact same recipe above, but stir in 1 teaspoon of Nutella before cooking in the microwave. So easy!
Want to know some of my other favorite chocolate mug cake variations? They are just as easy to make, but it’s fun to come up with different flavor combinations. To make these mug cake variations, simply stir up the batter, add the extra ingredients, then cook like normal!
Mug Cake Variations
- Peanut Butter Lover. Get the recipe here!
- Chocolate Covered Berry. Add 1 teaspoon raspberry or strawberry jam.
- Gimme S’More. Add 10 mini marshmallows and a sprinkling of graham cracker crumbs.
- A La Mode. One scoop of ice cream on top after it’s done cooking and you’ve got yourself a rockin’ dessert!
- Caramel Lover. Add two square caramel candies.
- Mint To Be. Sprinkle with mint baking chips or crushed up candy canes.
- Chocoholic. Add a handful of chocolate chips or pieces of a chopped up candy bar.
Can you tell that I’ve made this dessert a lot? Just you wait… once you’ve tried it, you’ll fall in love! Don’t believe me? Read the recipe reviews in the comments. Readers agree that this mug cake is amazing!

Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe Ingredient Substitutions
- It’s okay to substitute butter for margarine. They work interchangeably, but butter tastes better if you’ve got it.
- For a lower calorie option, replace the regular sugar with monk fruit or stevia granulated sweetener instead.
- You could use coconut sugar or even brown sugar instead of white sugar for a slightly different taste. Honey would be delicious, but might mess up the texture.
- There is no milk in this recipe, so no need to worry about substituting almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk or anything like that.
- If you want to make this recipe gluten free, I’ve heard good things about Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Baking Flour. It is a 1-1 product, so you would not need to change the recipe measurements.
- The recipe as written (with no added chocolate chips) has 528 calories.
Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe Video
Chocolate Mug Cake
Equipment
- 1 coffee mug
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 handful chocolate chips, optional
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a coffee mug. Add water, vanilla and salt and stir until smooth.
- Add sugar, cocoa powder and flour and stir until all the lumps are out. If you have a mini whisk, you can use that, but a spoon usually works just fine.
- Sprinkle a handful of chocolate chips into the batter, if desired.
- Cook in the microwave for 30-40 seconds. If you want less "lava" and more cake you can cook it for 10 seconds more. You may have to adjust the cooking time since all microwaves cook at different speeds.
- Enjoy while still warm.

I tried adding 1 teaspoon of inst. coffee and it was a little to strong I think it would have been better with only 1/2 or maybe only a 1/4 o a teaspoon of inst. coffee! but will you try and figure out which is better cause I don't make mug cakes very often so can you?
Thanks!
Jennifer {The Craft Patch} says
I'm sorry, Kit. I don't drink coffee so I don't think I'll be able to try making it for you. But next time you are in the mood for a treat, try adding 1/4 teaspoon and see how you like it. Good luck!
Debbra says
For an eggless and milkless mug cake, its not bad. I personally had to microwave longer. But thats because my microwave is old. So i also think i over cooked it. Though, still moist. I doubled recipe too. Because i knew a mug worth wasnt going to be enough haha. And i added marshmellos on top and torched the tops. This worked in a pinch when i had nothing really sweet in the house. Thank you for your recipe.

SR flour or AP?
Jennifer {The Craft Patch} says
I used all-purpose flour.

Love that it doesn’t need eggs. Super chocolatey hit when you don’t have time/ need for a whole cake. Now that i have done the basic recipe i will definitely try some variations.

DELISH the only problem i had was the microwaving part, but my microwave is junk!

I made this and it was delicious. I cooked it for another 30 seconds to make it even more like a cake and it was good. Thanks!

Luckily I came across your recipe yesterday to fulfil my craving for lava cake. Mixed & topped it with few callebaut milk choc chips too & microwave it for 40 secs. It was superb! Will definitely gonna make this again with brown sugar to cut down a bit of the sweetness. (Prolly bcuz of adding the choc chips hehe!) Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe ❤️

This Chocolate lava mug cake is easy and delicious! It truly is the on?y mug cake I'll ever need!
Ainsley Reitsma says
For 'mint to be' do you put the candy cane pieces on top before or after cooking? =D
Jennifer {The Craft Patch} says
Either one. I prefer to put them on before cooking so they get a little bit melty.

Bummer….mine was mushy…
Samuel says
You might need to cook it longer, like it says in the recipe.
Anonymous says
So yummy!! I used milk instead of water and a pinch of baking soda. Cooked it a bit too long at 1min, so it was cakey not lava like, but a scoop of ice cream on top and I didn't care as it satisfied my craving in less than 2 min 😊
Anonymous says
i microwaved mine for 1 minute and it was perfect lava to cake..
i also swapped out the water for leftover coffee and topped it with some coarse salt before cooking…
delicious !!

Just made this. So yummy! I microwaved for closer to 1 minute and it was the perfect consistency. Also may have added chocolate chips. Perfect!

I always add chocolate chips. Hee hee hee.

It's really good with two Andes month chocolate things and a quarter teaspoon of peanut butter (it sounds weird but I promise it's good).
jennifer@thecraftpatchblog.com says
Yum! I'll have to give it a try!
Anonymous says
Mine probably could've done with 1:30min but even undercooked and squishy it was still good, very dense, only did half the cocoa. Went great with vanilla ice cream.

I added Nutella to mine and it was delicious! Thanks so much for this great recipe!!

Have you tried using protein powder?
jennifer@thecraftpatchblog.com says
Nope… there is no hope of making this dessert healthy! 😂
Procastinator 101 says
well i added an egg !! 😉
Bri says
This turned out terribly for me! The mixture was so dry, definitely didn't have enough moisture, added some milk and still took 2 minutes cooking before it even closely looked near being Cake…
jennifer@thecraftpatchblog.com says
Bri, It's definitely not supposed to be dry. My guess is that you measured one of the ingredients wrong.

Can I leave out the chocolate for a simple vanilla cake or would that not work? I love the chocolate version I eat it all the time!
jennifer@thecraftpatchblog.com says
I'm not sure… try it once and see how it turns out. You woudn't waste very much if it doesn't work. Let me know how it goes!
Crystal says
I just tried it with no chocolate, just vanilla and it was very good. But it was a bit more mushy. Next time I may add another tsp of flour
Shumeaz Madden says
Absolutely delicious. I kept mine in the microwave a bit longer and added choc chips and coffee instead of water as per one of the comments. It was moist and decadent. Next time (and there'll be a next time) I'll have with some vanilla ice cream. Shumeaz

This recipe is wonderful! It can be used as a great base for something interesting and fun!
I melted 1 teaspoon dark chocolate chips with the butter and added another half a teaspoon into the final mix. I topped it off with vanilla ice cream and 3 blueberries.
I'm sure this recipe will be great on its own too. I will definitely recommend it to people!
N Renee says
This is by far the BEST mug recipe I have made! I added chocolate chips and ate with ice cream. It didn’t even need the chocolate chips. I just added an additional 30 seconds and it was still plenty gooey to my liking. I will keep this recipe for any time I want a quick and easy dessert.
Anonymous says
This was the PERFECT reward after tough day! I had to cook it an additional 40 seconds because our microwave is a little temperamental, topped it with some vanilla ice cream and it was the perfect size for my mom and I to split! Thank you for the wonderful recipe! I know it’s going to be a favorite in my entire family!

Girl.
When my kids are finally down for the night and I want something sweet with my Netflix I am NOT interested in sugar free, gluten free, flavor free chocolate cake like the ones I've tried until now.I want something delicious that I'll be paying for on the treadmill in the morning (notice: "paying for," not "regretting"). Thank you for understanding. Thank you! This one's going on my Pinterest board, "tried and true" with a handful of other recipes that actually lived up to the hype and fancy photography.
You're awesome!

Is the cocoa powder you used unsweetened?
jennifer@thecraftpatchblog.com says
Yes, unsweetened.

I added chocolate chips for extra lava;)
Jennifer says
Yum!
Jackflash says
Absolutely deliciously decadent! A few semi-sweet chocolate chips on top and a squirt of redi-whip on top…….OMG! Will try it with coffee in place of water and some ice cream next time….which will have to be a while from now. I could easily eat thhis every day, but I dare not. I would be a blimp in no time!😁
Claudia says
I have cane sugar intolerance, so I used maple syrup instead and it was very yummy! I also used gluten free all purpose flour! It was so delicious!!!
Nancy says
Does the mug need to be greased (as a cake pan would?)
Jennifer says
Nope! Because you melt the butter and water at first, it kind of greases the cup for you!
Carol Schu says
OMG… I added chopped walnuts and topped with whipped cream. Delish!
Kelly says
This turned out even better than I thought it would! I did have to microwave mine for the full minute to get it to the right texture. Because I didn’t have chocolate chips, I made my own fudge sauce by boiling a small amount of cocoa, milk and sugar. I’ll definitely be using this again!!
Melody says
This is by far the best mug recipe ! Thank you it makes the perfect treat and a good serving !

Finally!!! I mug cake recipe that doesn’t have that rubbery texture! Thank you so much for this! Me and my almost 2 year old son are enjoying it so much! He keeps saying, “Bite!”. I might have to make me another one after he goes to bed! Haha
Alka says
Can I make it in otg ( oven toaster grill) and for how long.
Jennifer says
I don’t recommend making this in a toaster oven.
Shandi F. says
Mmmmm. It was a little too chocolatey for me (yes, that’s a thing in my world.) But the texture was exactly what I was looking for after cooking it longer so it was more cake like vs lava. Definitely saving this recipe so I can make it again with different add-ins! Thanks for a great recipe.
Lisa says
I found this recipe, when I found myself without chocolate in the house. It’s ingredients are what I had on hand, and the promise of fudge lava cake was irresistible! It didn’t disappoint. Rich, creamy, deep chocolate flavor, and the portion size is perfect! I need not try another recipe. I found late night, chocolate heaven in a mug!
Dorcie Tracy says
Nutritional information? Calories?
Jennifer says
I haven’t figured out the calorie information. I don’t want to know. Hahaha! But there are multiple websites where you can look up each individual ingredient and do the math for yourself.
April says
Not sure if you still want to know, but I plugged the recipe into MyFitnessPal and it gave the following stats: Calories 547, Total Fat 23.5g, Carbs 78.1g and Protein 5g. Hope that helps!
Sonya C. says
Very yummy mug cake and way better than the store bought ones!! I added 20 seconds to cooking time to dry it up a little more. It was delish with a little whipped cream on top. It will definitely be my go to cake when I just need a little something sweet. Thanks for the recipe.
Linda says
I made this but added a chocolate sauce to the top before cooking (1 tbs cocoa, 1 tbs sugar and 4 tbs boiling water) and cooked for 1 minute. Made a delicious dessert!
Jan says
If you a chocolate fix, this is it!!
Ten Stars…. 🌟
Liza Briggs says
Perfect recipe. I cut the sugar in half and microwaved the mixture for 40 seconds. I stirred in a chocolate sauce made from a bit of heavy cream and ghiradelli chocolate chips.
JGC says
I made this and adding 1/4t of baking soda (I was worried it wouldn’t get fluffy and thought eh, why not.) Otherwise I followed the ingredients exactly. I ended up nuking it for more like a minute in 20 second intervals and it came out perfectly. Fluffy but rich and moist. I’ll definitely be making this again!
Cris says
This is the closest I’ve ever had to a molten lava cake. Fantastic! Would be great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
Devon C says
I doubled it, cut the sugar in half and used some peanut butter to make it at least a little balanced. Too much butter for me, I recommend leaving the butter at 2 tbsp if you decide to double. Otherwise very nice quick fix for a dense chocolate cake.
Kara says
I made this but it didn’t turn out right. So I am not sure what I did wrong. It wasn’t like a cake texture at all it was still really mushy so I cooked it longer and then it got really gooey lol so I hope next time I can make it correctly!
Jennifer says
It sounds like something went wrong… BUT it’s also a dense LAVA cake and not a light, fluffy cake.
Susie says
So good! And with ingredients I have in the pantry/fridge (I barely ever have choc in the house and all the other recipes have it)
Thank you for posting it, turned out perfect. Gooey and Cakey at the same time
Astha M says
Can I use dairy milk chocolate bar in place of coco powder?
Jennifer says
I don’t know. Give it a try!
Bryan says
How did it do?
I would think you need 2 TBL more flour since your not using the cocao powder and adding more liquid from the chocolate bar, not much but….maybe just more cooking?
I started with 30 seconds nice gooey did 10 more seconds like fudgey delight.
Jessi says
I just tried this and it’s perfect! After cooking, I added mini marshmallows & cooked 10 seconds longer. Soooo good!
Toni says
I just tried this and thankfully I won’t have to try another crappy mug cake recipe, this is it! I like it a bit gooey and this was perfect!

YUM! This mug cake is super delish and easy to make. I added a few chocolate chips and topped it off with vanilla ice cream. I will absolutely make this one again and again! ❤️

This was delicious. And perfect for my nursing induced dairy free, soy free diet! I have been craving chocolate so hard! Also, I had Dutch processed cocoa on hand from a pie that I made at Christmas…truly decadent!
Madhu Anvekar says
Hi , Can I use self raising flour instead of All purpose flour and vegetable instead of butter ?
Jennifer says
You can try substitutions, but I can’t guarantee the results.
Brooklyn says
Omg! I loved it it was the best! I put some ice cream on it and boom! It was the bom! Thanks for the recipe!
Jackie says
Very good. I added two drops of mint extract with the vanilla. Awesome
Jackie says
Forgot to add that all ingredients mixed perfectly unlike some other recipes. This is the go to keeper.
Stacey says
I felt like changing it up a bit (Honestly I just suck at following a standard recipe).
I was out of vanilla extract so I used fresh vanilla instead. Then I dissolved approximately 1ml of instant coffee into warmed milk (instead of water). I also used 1 tbls each of standard and Dutch processed cocoa and then finishing it off by placing about 1 tbls worth of dark chilli chocolate in the middle covering it with a little bit of the batter.
I am now officially chocolate wasted (and wondering why I have to always over complicate things🙈)

Yum… I decided to melt a square of Godiva chocolate with the butter and 1/4 tsp of espresso powder and cut cocoa to 1-1/2 tblsp. Wow was it chocolate-y. My microwave is old so had to cook it a minute and 20 seconds for it to set. Easy recipe and definitely cured my chocolate craving. I’ll make it again. Thanks for the recipe.

omg i put powdered sugar on this and it is sooooo good thanks ill make this

Shout out to Julien Solomita for recommending! says
AMAZING. I was skeptical, as I’ve been burned by mug recipes in the past & this one’s simplicity seemed too good to be true. But boy, did I eat crow (or in this case, cake). 30 seconds made it beautifully moist, with a decadent flavor and absolutely luscious texture. Makes you feel like you’re the lady in those Dove chocolate commercials, reclined on the couch in a cozy sweater & savoring a sweet treat.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE COCOA POWDER, don’t fret. I only had Cacao powder & some gourmet hot chocolate mixes. I figured if I didn’t have cocoa powder, the next best thing was gourmet hot chocolate because those high-end mixes tend to be primarily cocoa powder, a little sugar, and maybe some added flavoring (unlike Nestle hot chocolate which has a lot more filler ingredients). So what I did for the “cocoa powder” ingredient was mix together a 50/50 ratio of Cacao powder & Whittard hot chocolate mix (salted caramel flavor). The end result was beautiful, and you could probably use all high end cocoa mix if you had to (and just measure out a little under 1/4 c for the sugar).
Anceptus says
Found this recipe through Julien Solomita’s mug recipes video. I’ve never eaten a lava cake before, since I’m not American, so I’ve decided to give this recipe a try. I don’t know how it’s supposed to look like, but mine turned out very fudgy, dense and sweet. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be like that, but I loved it nevertheless. It looks like an undercooked cake, but it doesn’t taste of flour at all, it’s very delicious. I used milk instead of water and only had sweetened cocoa powder at home (used less sugar in the recipe because of it), so that’s what I used. I think if I added some baking powder it would be more cake-like, next time I’ll try it out. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Frenchy says
Hi! I leave mine for 50 seconds total in the microwave and it turns out just like a cake, with a fudgy top. I think you would just need to leave it longer in the microwave to get it to be more cake-like 🙂
Isabelle says
Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed that. I followed your recipe with the addition of a few raspberries mixed into the batter. I cooked for a total of 53 seconds (I did 40 + 5 + 8 seconds) in my 850 watt microwave and the texture was soft and gooey but I reckon another 10 seconds would have made it more cake-like. I personally prefer the gooey texture and I enjoyed it with some Greek yoghurt (a nice accompaniment as not as sweet as other yoghurts).
Mouye Diallo says
It was delicious and I made it in five min I love how it was so easy to make and it was ingredients that are normally in your house so you don’t need to go out and buy anything. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe with us

The best thing ever. I make this almost every week hehe. Wheat flour works just as well as all-purpose and we can use maple/pancake syrup as substitute for vanilla essence. Found this on Pinterest, changed my life.

This is fantastic! You saved us from having to put on pants and go to the store. This recipe is magic. My husband didn’t believe there is no eggs. We added a bit of instant espresso and chocolate chips our first time. Today we are adding peanut butter, and I cut down the sugar to half just b/c we’re a bit sensitive after surgery. Thanks!!

This is a delicious and super simple recipe. Perfect if you want something sweet but don’t want to be tempted with a batch of brownies or cookies sitting around. I made a 1/2 recipe and counted it as approx 263 calories (without any chocolate chips or add ons).

I was having one of those “if I don’t get chocolate soon, someone’s getting hurt” moments. I’ve tried tons of chocolate mug cake recipes, and this one is THE KEEPER. Made as written and it was rich, fudgey and now everyone doesn’t have to live in fear. I’ll just have to practice a lot of self-restraint to not make this every night.

such a good recipe! use this all of the time, so quick and delish.
try using olive spread instead of butter! makes a much smoother and more moist cake! needs maybe 10-20 seconds longer in microwave if you use this, but tastes same and is so delicious!

Definitely The Best chocolate mud cake I’ve made or eaten. I added a couple of choc melt chips & cooked a bit longer. Amazing with ice cream.
Matt says
I used simple truths Dutch cacoa powder (for how healthy it is compared to other cacoa powders) and also added a pinch of baking powder. Results are spectacular. I also added 4-5 chocolate chips to the center before microwaving it. Be sure to use a proper sized mug for the best consistency.
Ella says
I found that the recipe just didn’t work. I did substitute the sugar for brown sugar, as I prefer the taste, and I added less water as I have found that less is more, but no matter how much I microwaved it, it just didn’t rise up very much and just didn’t look ready. By the time I gave in and ate it, it was all dry and had an almost burnt taste.
Jennifer says
You clearly cooked it too long. It’s supposed to be a dense, fudgy lava cake. Try again and stay within the recommended cooking time and I bet you’ll have a lot more success.
Cathie says
Stumbled across this and decided to take a chance. It’s wonderful and will become a regular dessert in my line-up! Made it just as the recipe is written. I had a few milk chocolate chips in the bottom of a bag and sprinkled a few on top but they weren’t needed.
Very good, very pleased!

I had to add a lot more milk, but it turned out perfect. Milk instead of water !
Sparrow says
Delightful. I had a random craving for chocolate at like, midnight tonight, and the recipe I currently have saved is getting boring, so this was a nice change!
I swapped the water out for milk, and added in a tbsp of peanut butter. I had to cook it for about 2:30 minutes because it was super, super runny and I wanted an actual cake tonight. It’s super, super good once it cools down enough, though!
Jenny Z says
My son and I make this cake all the time. I love the gooey lava texture. I was looking for a gooey lemon mug cake but they all looked so dry. So I tweaked this recipe. I substituted fresh lemon juice for the water, used 3 Tbls of sugar instead of 4, and of course instead of cocoa I used the zest of half a lemon. Perfect lemony gooeyness!

I was having one of those evenings where I NEEDED chocolate. I avoided it all day and when I came home, we had nothing in the house. I decided to try this and I’m CURED. Haha! Okay this was seriously delicious! And so moist! My daughter couldn’t believe how quickly you could make a brownie lol we put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top- 10/10!
Lauren says
This was delicious! Will cut the sugar in half next time because ingesting 1/4 of a cup of sugar seems crazy when you think about it (although I’m sure I do it all the time unknowingly lol)!
Lisa says

Best thing I have ever made in my microwave.
Turned out pretty perfect.

This was the best mug cake I’ve ever made! Honestly in my opinion it was better than most regular cakes too. the texture was amazing!
Abby says
WOW. I was skeptical that this would be good since all other mug cakes I’ve tried have been garbage but it really is amazing! Gooey chocolatey goodness in a mug
Jasper02 says
This is delicious as is, but I decided to mix it up a bit. I left out the cocoa powder (added extra flour to replace it) and used brown sugar instead of white except half the amount. It made a wonderful caramel like cake.
Brit says
So so good. I made it slightly healthier by using almond/peanut butter instead of butter, almond flour, coconut sugar at half the amount, and just a dash of baking powder. I’ve made this 5 nights in a row.
Terri says
Made it with hot chocolate drinking powder and pieces of dairy milk and it was fab! Cooked for 1 min in my 800 watt microwave
Carmen says
I’ve had a good many mug cakes in my time, majority of them were horrible, but this was fantastic! Exactly what I needed! I added a few Chopped up marshmallows which made it extra good, will hopefully have ice cream in the freezer next time to have with it! Only change i made was using milk instead of water.
Joseph says
I’m a 16 year old boy so I’m pretty stupid when it comes to baking, this was fantastic!
Marjorie McLellan says
I loved this Lava Cake. I dropped a tablespoon of peanut butter in at the end. Did not mix in. Cannot say exactly how long I cooked it, maybe 70 seconds.
Kayla Kane says
It’s freezing outside and all I wanted was chocolate cake after a long day at work. Stumbled across this recipe and I am amazed at how well it turned out! I used dark chocolate cocoa powder and I am so happy! I had everything that I needed in the pantry and my husband was so impressed I had to make one for him too. Thank you for such a quick and yummy recipe!
Tasha says

Kara says
I wonder if baking powder would help make it not so dense? I just don’t know how much.
Trish says
So delicious! I substituted almond extract for the vanilla extract and had to cook it about a full minute. Absolutely delicious, and so quick and easy!
Amy says
This is Dan basic. I give it some fluff with 1/8tsp baking soda

Hi,
Do I need to add baking powder to this? and if so how much please?
Jennifer says
Nope, follow the recipe as written.
Jodene says
I found it wonderfully chocolatey but way to sweet for my taste. I’d cut the sugar back to 1 tablespoon. I grated a little orange rind and a bit of espresso powder in mine. Definitely cured tonight’s sweet tooth. Thanks for the recipe
sylvie says
amzing mind blowwn
Anna says
hell yeah, that was exactly what I was craving! incredible, thank you.
I think my microwave might be weaker than yours, it took me 1 min 20 sec to get past the point of still being completely runny
leah says

Katie Pharr says
Had to microwave a bit longer- more like 1:10. But still came out very fudge-y and delicious. Definitely saving this recipe!
Emily Campbell says
I’ve made this wayyyy too many times since finding it 😂
It comes out perfectly moist and cooked through, and is just the right amount of sugar and chocolatey goodness 🥰
Annie C says
I would note that when you use salt that isn’t fine enough it will sink to the bottom (within seconds) and you’ll have a salty bottom! Use table salt or kosher salt, not from a grinder! Otherwise excellent recipe.
Cathleen Gaudet says
OMG! I lol r you and this recipe. I’m a diabetic, and used Splenda instead. So delicious and so easy!
Rebekah Spring-Ford says
I added powdered sugar on top and it was like an amazing version of the cicis pizza brownies! I also made it with dark chocolate chunks and 1/4 tsp instant espresso and it is soooo good! Great recipe !!
K.M. says
I didn’t have unsweetened cocoa powder, so I added chocolate milk powder, and reduced the amount of sugar that was called for. It turned out so good!
Sarah Whitman says
I do not know if I have EVER had a better mug cake.

Emma says
Perfect for a quick sweet tooth or pms craving !
Lois Cass says
That was an amazing decadent, Yummy treat. It was soo ooey gooey like the center of a brownie. Perfect Amount and oh so rich.
Eli says
Tastes great, though I did need to cook it for another like 50 seconds even after the original 40 because it was still pretty liquidity. Could very much be because I used a gluten free flour blend or miscut on the butter.
